A-Levels Are a Different Game

The jump from GCSE to A-Level is the steepest academic transition in the UK system. Students who coasted through GCSEs often hit a wall in Year 12, the content is harder, the mark schemes are less forgiving, and the volume of independent study required catches many off guard. At Think Smart Academy, we have spent years helping Slough students navigate this transition and come out with the grades they need for their first-choice university.

Our A-Level programme is not just about passing exams. We teach students to think at a higher level, to analyse, evaluate, and synthesise information in the way that A-Level examiners (and university lecturers) expect. Every session is led by a subject specialist who understands the exam board specifications inside out and can show your child exactly how to move from a C to an A.

Beyond academics, we support students with UCAS applications, personal statement writing, and interview preparation. For students targeting Russell Group universities, medicine, law, or Oxbridge, we offer tailored guidance to make their application stand out. We work with students from sixth forms and colleges across Slough, Windsor, Eton, Burnham, and the wider area.

What Students and Parents Say

"I was getting Ds in A-Level Chemistry after the first term and seriously considered dropping it. My tutor at Think Smart rebuilt my understanding from the ground up. I ended up with a B and got into my first-choice university for Pharmacy. I genuinely do not think I would have got there without them."

Amira H. (student)

Grade D to Grade B in Chemistry

"Think Smart did not just help my daughter with her A-Level subjects, they helped her write a personal statement that genuinely reflected who she is. She received offers from four of her five choices, including UCL. The whole experience was worth every penny."

Frequently Asked Questions About A-Level Tuition

We offer tuition in Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature, Psychology, and Economics. These are the subjects where we have proven specialist tutors with track records of helping students achieve top grades. If you need a subject not on this list, contact us and we will let you know if we can accommodate it.
A-Level content is significantly more demanding, the jump from GCSE to A-Level catches many students off guard. Our A-Level programme focuses on depth of understanding rather than surface-level recall. Tutors push students to explain concepts, apply knowledge to unfamiliar contexts, and construct extended responses that hit the higher mark bands. We also integrate university preparation, including UCAS personal statement guidance and interview practice for competitive courses.
Yes. For Year 13 students, we offer UCAS personal statement reviews as part of our A-Level programme. Our tutors provide feedback on drafts and help students articulate their academic interests, extracurricular activities, and career motivations. For students applying to Oxbridge or medicine/dentistry/veterinary programmes, we also offer mock interview sessions.
This is extremely common. The transition from GCSE to A-Level is the biggest academic jump in the UK education system. Many students who achieved 7s, 8s, and 9s at GCSE find themselves struggling with D and E grades in Year 12. The good news: with the right support, this is entirely recoverable. We start with a diagnostic assessment to identify the specific topics and skills causing difficulty, then build a structured recovery plan.
Yes. While we run small group sessions (maximum 4 students), 1-to-1 tuition is our most popular format at A-Level. The depth and specificity of A-Level content means students benefit most from personalised attention. 1-to-1 sessions are tailored entirely to your child's exam board, school curriculum order, and individual weaknesses.
Group sessions start from £25 per hour and vary by subject. Students committing to 3 or more hours per week receive a discount, and a further 10% off applies when lessons are paid upfront for the term (3 months). 1-to-1 tuition is £45 per hour at our standard rate, with discounts down to £30 per hour depending on the number of hours committed. We also offer sibling discounts and multi-subject packages. There is no registration fee and no minimum commitment, contact us for a full quote.
